4 Tips To Protect Yourself From Scams
Over 6 months, many people fell victim to a mobile device scam that targeted banking members. These scammers specifically used texts to members, sending them a fake security alert, leading them to a scam webpage.
We want to ensure our members are aware of how these scams work so they don’t become victims themselves.
These scam pages are designed to look like legitimate mobile banking login pages. These pages prompt members to enter sensitive personal identity information such as account numbers, usernames, date of birth, security question answers, and passwords.
4 Tips on Avoiding Scams:
Only use our official mobile apps. If you receive an alert from NRFCU, log into your account without clicking the link and see if you can determine if there is an issue.
Use secure browsers. Ensure you have security settings on your mobile browser that help identify scam sites.
Utilize antivirus software. Just like you can for your desktop, you can also add antivirus software to your phone.
Always check the URL for anything out of the ordinary. Things such as misspelled websites and strange website extensions are all signs of a possible scam.
One of the best defenses against mobile scams is to keep your guard up. These scams continue to become easier to fall for as scammers become smarter, so it’s important to be aware. Keep you and your family informed so everyone can keep their personal information protected.
